As part of TETMI's effort to reach rural people with the wholistic gospel and care for the total man, TETMI for many years often organize free medical outreaches for the rural communities where they work in. In the month of December 7th to 11th, 2024 TETMI in partnership with People Development And Empowering Possibilities Initiative (PEDEPI) organized a 5-day free medical outreach in Akaee, IVO LGA Ebonyi state Nigeria. This outreach attracted people from neighboring villages, security personnel, and community leaders.
This outreach was designed to cover all the communities surrounding Akaeze while Akaeze served as the host community. Over 850 people were treated, compared to Previous times when TETMI had always treated over 1500 people in every outreach. This time was different because of the communal wars going among the communities. Many were scared to come out, while some were bold enough to make it to the outreach center. Predominat cases of treated in the outreach was malaria, sicknesses related to malnutrition, and cases of cataract.
The outreach was centered at the TETMI Ruth Sormerville Clinic in Akaeze, IVO LGA Ebonyi state. This clinic has served and is still serving the Akaeze community by providing basic health care services at very affordable rates. These outreaches are life saving because, many of the villagers have not been able to visit the clinic or even see a doctor in many years. For some mothers, this would be the first time they are taking their children to the hospital to see a doctor after childbirth. Children, Adults, teeneager and the elderly ones were well attended to. This medical outreach also attracted the presence of students and school proprietors from other villages.
The team of medical personnel included three medical doctors, seven nurses, one lab scientist, two opticians, and a number of other mobilized volunteers that made this outreach a reality. TETMI is not just passionate about reach rural people with the gospel and establish them, but that rural christians and by extension rural people are developed wholistically to be valuable citizens of society. How can they be valuable citizens if they are not healthy?
